Changing the behavior changes the world
The meaning of Small Giants Water
Small Giants Water is an initiative that aims to start a change in behavior in our region and make it recognizable precisely because of the healthy climate and clean water from which generations of Small Giants have grown.
You are invited to support this idea - consciously avoid the unnecessary purchase of water in single-use packaging.
A small step, but a gigantic effect.
Let a few alarming facts motivate you:
- On a planet rich in water, there is a threat of water shortage. Our so-called "blue gold of the future", our most aliment, which was once a human right, today is becoming an increasingly valuable commodity, a trade commodity, increasingly sought after and expensive.
- Using one public fountain can save 1,000,000 plastic bottles! Also, bottled water is a thousand times more expensive than tap water, while its quality is often lower.
- One million plastic water bottles are bought in the world every minute! As much as 80% of those bottles are not recycled, and end up directly in the landfill.
- It takes about 1000 years to decompose one plastic bottle.
- It is estimated that for every liter of water in a bottle, three liters of water are used for its production.
- There is no evidence that bottled water is healthier than tap water. In terms of packaging and the possibility of releasing harmful substances during shelf-life or in case of heating, glass packaging has proven to be the most reliable.
- A plastic bottle is not just waste. Apart from the energy used in its own production, its disposal also continues this consumption sequence. In one bottle, we can see its entire life cycle: from factory filling, transport, packaging to desposing of the packaging, i.e. its collection, sorting, transport and recycling (which can only be carried out a certain number of times).
- European regulations for the production of bottled water are less strict than for tap water.
- Historically, the increased use of bottled water was caused precisely by the fear of pollution. Thus, between 1780 and 1789, bottled water became fashionable in France, and very soon 22 types of water were sold in Paris alone. The price of a pint of such water was equal to one day's wages (!)
- Also in the USA, the origin of using bottled water was due to pollution in rapidly developing cities. In the first half of the 20th century, generations of Americans learned to avoid water that was not specially tested or bottled. Drinking water from untested sources has almost disappeared from the habits of today's generations, and exists only as a reminder of childhood or some romantic past.
- Today, Americans consume 30 billion (!) liters of bottled water worth 10 billion dollars. 3 out of 4 Americans drink bottled water, and one in five drink exclusively bottled water, even though it has been proven that there is no difference compared to tap water.
- The human body is made up of 25% solids and 75% water. A person of average weight carries 50 liters of water. The brain, our vital organ, consists of 85% water. Water is given to us, we don't question this fact. However, that same water also has no alternatives. Therefore, water conservation is our primary task for our future and future generations.
- Data on global drinking water pollution are alarming - WHO states that polluted water is the cause of 80% of diseases in the world. Contaminated water kills about 15,000 people a day. By 2040, the amount of drinking water could even be cut by half!
„There is an urgent need to educate for environmental responsibility: responsibility towards oneself; responsibility towards others; environmental responsibility. It is an education that cannot be based simply on feeling or on a vague desire to return to the "lost paradise". True education for responsibility includes an authentic conversion in the way of thinking and in behavior. „- Ivan Pavao II, Vatikan, 1989. "The water crisis is the most present, the most serious and the most invisible dimension of the Earth's ecological devastation." - Vandana Shiva, one of the leading Indian physicists

A small step, but a gigantic responsability
How to be a giant in a physical way is quite clear. However, we can also become giants with the size of our heart, the determination of our attitudes and responsible behavior. A giant is also the one who takes care of his/her land, water, vine and home. A giant is anyone who puts their current interests aside for the common good.
Let's preserve our natural sources, our water, let's show by example what it means to preserve what is valuable. Let's leave clean water, unpolluted soil and this story of a beautiful name behind which hides a complete way of life, but also a value that we talk about while honestly living it.
